Whales and Bears – Coastal Rainforest Safaris
Coastal Rainforest Safaris delivers exciting wilderness experiences amongst the diverse wildlife of British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest, on the wild West Coast of Canada. We offer guests a fully immersive nature experience told from a unique, Indigenous perspective that explores our connection to the land and sea, the whales and bears that inhabit both, and the history that makes the area what it is now. Retreat with us to our remote luxurious camp where large safari-style canvas tents welcome you at the end of each adventurous day.
Enjoy seclusion and serenity in beautifully remote locations, where our families have lived for more than 14,000 years. Other operators simply cannot access the awe-inspiring parts of our territories that we share with our valued guests.
We are unique in our vision of building a team of people from the territory that we are guiding in. Traditionally trained and culturally active, we share our local history, culture, food and harvest with adventurous visitors.
Authenticity is at the heart of our company and is present in everything that we do.
Each excursion from the safari camp is unique. Local Indigenous guides customize routes and activities to provide as many wildlife viewing opportunities as possible. Days may be spent exploring the shorelines and rivers of Seymour Inlet to view bears, or discovering whales, porpoises, and sea lions in the Queen Charlotte Strait. Another day could be spent viewing sea otters and sea birds—often spotting whales at the same time.
Part of the unique beauty of a multi-day safari camp experience is that you are immersed in the environment and wildlife all day and all night. Wildlife viewing and wilderness experiences don’t end when you disembark the boat each day. You may fall asleep to the soft tapping sound of a sea otter cracking open a clam. Perhaps you’ll be woken in the middle of the night by the blow of a humpback whale passing by your oceanside tent, or you’ll arise in the morning and see a bald eagle perched in a tree outside your tent.
Explore the waters surrounding northern Vancouver Island and the adjoining mainland coast of B.C., on four-day safari that will give you a truly special experience of the Great Bear Rainforest, which encompasses a quarter of the world’s coastal temperate rainforest. You’ll also have a unique opportunity to learn from local Kwakwaka’wakw guides, who are proud of their heritage and excited to share their culture, stories, and knowledge of the land.
